The band says the song was released to celebrate the upcoming Hella Mega Tour. May 17/21 – The song teased on May 14th was surprised released as a stand-alone single called ‘Pollyanna’. Oct 24/21 – Social media posts indicate that Billie Joe, Tre Cool and some of the Green Day crew (including longtime engineer Chris Dugan) are visiting London, England. The tease features a new song clip and seems to indicate the album/EP title will be ‘1972’. ĭec 19/21 – After a long break of no news on the upcoming album, Green Day release a studio tease from RAK Studios in London, England. Jan 7/22 – Green Day release a second video tease for 1972. One of the images shows “Green Day 1972” written on a white piece of paper. Jan 18/22 – In a post on Billie Joe’s Instagram story you can briefly see the contents of his camera roll on the bottom of the screen. Jan 22/22 – Green Day post a third video tease for 1972. Since the first studio tease, the band members have used the hashtag #1972 on certain Instagram posts and Billie Joe shared fan made “1972” album covers in his story.Ī second video tease on January 7th features film footage of the band played in reverse, another new song clip and once again the suspected album/EP title ‘1972’. The band were in Studio 1 during their time there. The studio seen in the teaser video is RAK Studios in London, England. Rumours of a 6 song EP, and a studio tease, popped up in December that seemed to hint the band were looking to celebrate their collective 50th birthdays in 2022 with their birth year of “1972” featured in the video. It’s possible that some of the songs left off Father Of All… ended up being repurposed for Money Money 2020: Part II, The Network album released in the fall of 2020. The album was originally expected to be produced by Butch Walker ( Father Of All…) but that status is currently unclear as considerable time has passed since those original statements were made. We know that there are 7 songs that were left off Father Of All… and Billie has stated that he had written 3-4 songs since the first single from that album came out (Sept 10/19) and another 6 (as of April 7/19) while in quarantine due to the Coronavirus crisis. Green Day had previously stated that they hoped to release new music as soon as the summer of 2020 but they have scrapped that plan with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic making it difficult to properly promote new releases.
